A Warm Fire by Alexis Clare

Untitled by Angel Ruelas

he is like my father and

he is not like my father

they are both warm fires

they are both safe

they are home

my father will fizzle out

stomp out his own flame on purpose

leave you cold

leave himself cold

betray you and never look you in the eye

but the boy will burn you

will let the flames overtake the room

will burn the skin from your bones

because he had a bad day

and you dared to touch him

Alexis Clare is a twice self-published author of the poetry series "The Sun and the Moon". They are biracial, bisexual, and bi-furious.
